There are a bunch of questions one should ask oneself before starting a blog. Can you answer the below questions?
1. What do I want to gain out of it?
Yes an obvious question, but so many recently have been asking me why I started a blog and how I’ve made it work for me. I gave myself a lot of flexibility with my blog, including not expecting too much. I did it to grow my confidence in fashion and clothing for my body shape and it has worked wonders for me.
2. Can I dedicate the time to it?
Now how you react to this question will be based on how you responded to Q1. If you’re wanting to gain A LOT out of it, i.e. followers, readers, comments, ADs etc. Then you should probably consider putting more time into content and design of your blog. Things do not happen over night with blogging and it’s a slow steady ride but it’s a hellova lot of fun!
3. What topic(s) will I cover?
I feel having a key focus with your blog will really help channel your creativity. I started with Plus size fashion, then stretched into travel and now cover lifestyle (albeit once in the blue moon). It’s great to focus on one topic you LOVE then put roots in other topics as you grow. You may write on some topics and find you didn’t enjoy it as much as others, but that’s fine. Hey it’s all part of the fun!
4. Am I willing to accept help when I’m struggling?
We’ve all been there, had an SEO question or a keyword fail. If you’re pretty stubborn you may find it hard to understand you’re not the best (yet) at certain attributes to blogging. I still need to develop my SEO. Understanding your limitations really helps set a good marker on where you’re going to aim for with your blog. Others have downfalls with marketing/social media and it may be well worth your time to pay for some assistance on this. Finding a reputable company/fellow blogger that can help is key.
5. Can you accept it’s a slow burner?
This isn’t the case for everyone- some blogs are so genius they march straight to the stars. But for many, it’s a long and steady process. Building a good blog will take time and effort. Being understanding that you may not see results overnight will help you channel your goals.
How did you get on with the above questions?
Most importantly, have fun with everything and do it because you love it 🙂
