MoMA, New York

It’s been a while since my last travel post but what better time to post then while I’m away in the clouds on Maternity Leave. Due to pop any moment (I may have already!) I’ve scheduled a little information on the gem that is MoMA in New York….

If anyone asks me to name my favourite galleries in the world, I’ll be the first to drop the Vatican Museums, the Musée d’Orsay or even Ferens Art Gallery in my home town. However, recently a rather unexpected addition occured. The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York is tantalising and eye opening. A rather surprising one from me, given I usually take preference to Renaissance galleries. However, in New York I visited two ‘Modern’ galleries with New York being at the front of Avant Garde art for so long. Firstly, the Guggenheim (which I’ll save for another post) was a disappointment to me. So I was a tad at awe when I fell head over heels for MoMA.

I visited first thing in the morning, and as always there was a queue of people waiting. In all honestly though, the queue didn’t take long to move through and the staff were efficient and helpful in getting everyone exploring the exhibits as quickly as possible. As a standard Brit, who is usually well prepared for queues it was a delight to stroll on through.

Works by Picasso, Oppenheim, Duchamp and Vincent Van Gogh fill the walls and cabinet displays giving you a sample of some of the finest pieces of Modern Art. Admission is $25 and well worth the money, but if you’re saving cash for other excursions why not visit on a Friday Evening between 4 and 8… go on! It’s free!

If you like reading about city breaks then you can find information on visiting Pisa here.

I feel we would be perfect travel companions! We could spend hours wondering around museums together not needing to even talk until we find a little bar somewhere after! #dreams
