Hello and welcome to a new series of blog posts entitled ‘The Confession Series’. Maybe it’s a little way for you to get to know me better, maybe it’s a way for me to understand the inner workings of my mind. However, on a day where my Instagram feed is plugged full of influencers displaying their beautiful book flat lays, posing with their delicate covers and recreating iconic book series it’s time I confess: I am not a book person.
Now now. I don’t hate books. I believe reading is a wonderful thing if you get enjoyment out of it, but the truth is I don’t. Some will call me lazy, some uneducated and others? Darn well rude. In honesty, I would much rather go for a long walk or relax with a movie then spend hours turning pages to get to an all ending conclusion of a book that leaves my eyes sore and my brain tired.
This seems a sin right? A blogger that ain’t that into books? If I go back a couple of years it may address the roots of the matter. I read so much at University. Devoured book after book on History and Art and I think it tainted the experience for me. I stopped reading for joy and purely for academic study. Whilst I’ve made several attempts to get back into lighter books I just can’t muster it. I genuinely believe it sucked the fun outta a good page turner for me and left me without patience to sink into those musty scented pages.
But I hear you asking, where oh where will you get your inspiration from then Violet? Easy. I do read blog posts, I explore the world and I love other media outlets. Hope is not lost, and it’s proof you don’t have to be a book lover to be one of those arty, creative sorts that look mega cool on the internet.
Where does this leave me though? Am I on my own here in the little blogger shame corner? I’m sure there will be others but where are you all at? I’ll be here welcoming you with open arms- there’s no judgement here.
