How do you feel about January? I know for one I often get hit with a bit of the old SAD and January blues. I’ve written posts before on ways I combat this, but quite honestly, somedays nothing beats just sitting on the sofa (or in bed- no judgement) and watching series after series of your most binge-worthy tv programmes. This winter, Joe & I treated ourselves to a new tele, oooh yeah. Our TV of 8 years had done us wonderfully, but we genuinely wanted a little treat, some incredible smart features and a thx certified display. So of course, now living the life of luxury with an ever so fancy tv, I was ever so ready to head deep into my favourite series and work my way into January. So here are my 3 favourite picks this January.
You Season 2 (available on Netflix)
If you haven’t already demolished Season 1 then where have you been? Season 2 came out this January and I must have worked my way through it within days. The storyline? Let’s start with the key tag line for it. “What would you do for love?” Essentially, the answer for our lead is anything. This dark, sexy, psychological thriller has you hooked as you follow Joe (our lead) and his deep infatuation with love interests. Hauntingly addictive, at times you cheer him on and then feel the guilt for it. I won’t give too much away, but please go watch an episode. Penn Badgley is outstanding. Honestly, I have loved watching YOU. If you’re a Dexter fan then this is one for you!
His Dark Materials (available on BBC iplayer)
Did you ever read any Philip Pullman books? The BBC have taken on the humongous task of tackling the story of a young girl named Lyla, who lives in alternative universe where all humans have animal companions called daemons. This eight-episode series follows the search for her friend and ultimately shapes her as a strong lead in what is a wonderfully cast tv series. If you’re into high fantasy and love to escape to another world that feels all too familiar then this is one for you. I loved watching this and I’m so pleased it’s been renewed for a second series (how could it not?!)
Marvelous Mrs Maisel (available on Prime)
Nothing new to the list, but as it’s been renewed for it’s 4th season I felt I had to mention it. You see, I’m a sucker for a period series. Add to that the comedy element and you’ve hit the golden buzzer. It follows the story of ‘Midge’ who realises she has a bit of a talent for comedy and looks to pursue it in a largely male dominated industry. Watch for lots of giggles, some incredible fashion choices and something to stick on that you can drift in and out of. Perfect.
What’s your favourite series to binge watch?
