When I found out we were pregnant, I was elated. My mind seemed to ignore the fact that this little ‘seed’ would someone change our world again. Once it started to process these thoughts and I was actively trying to encourage conversation with my son Jasper, I realised… what type of character are we going to get? What little gem would bless us, would we get another boy or perhaps a girl this time? Joe & I literally had no preference this time round. I won’t lie, last time I was hoping for a boy. I honestly don’t have much to say in terms of why, just that as one of 3 girls I fancied a change! I know it really doesn’t matter what gender your child is, and of course they’ll always be able to make choices on this in their own right but for me, finding out the gender is a huge part of the bonding process. Once we found out what this baby was going to be, it all started to become a little more real. I could speak to Jasper about being an older brother and in some ways prepare him for what is about to happen.
So dun dun dun…. we’re having….
A GIRL!
Yes if you’ve been following me on instagram, you’ll have seen this announcement go live but I wanted to share some thoughts on it and my instagram captions are already long enough.
When I found out that we were expecting a girl I was a little stunned. I cried A LOT. One of the first things I thought about was that the name I really liked for a child was more suited to a girl and therefore I could use that name. YES SUCCESS. Other than that, my mind was a tornado of emotions. Happy we’d have one of each, nervous about what to do with her (ello just raise her right?), thoughts of marriage, thoughts of Jasper being a protective older brother. It all started to flood in. Then came the semi-funny thoughts of ‘what will she look like?’ I’m 90% certain that my child will have to wear a bow on her head most of the time so people don’t confuse her as a little boy. Weird what the mind thinks of right? Seriously, I just can’t imagine what she’ll look like. I was so sure with Jasper that he’d be a mini-Joe, and he really is. However, I don’t see a little girl looking like me and crikey, if she looks like Joe?!
Then came some of the funner thoughts. I’ve never been shy about the fact that shopping for boys is rubbish. Genuinely there are about 3 rows for boys of the same truck covered, laddish clothing when for girls there are 7 rows of animal prints, textures, different items of clothing and accessorises. I can’t wait to get stuck into those.
All in all, it’s still sinking in if I’m honest. I’m also half expecting it to be a scan mistake and for me to end up with 2 boys as I always kinda thought would happen. However, if I do get my little girl, you can be sure as heck I’m gonna feel the luckiest woman on earth (although reality is I would either way!)
