A letter to all people on parenting:
Today a friend told me she thought I was doing brilliantly as a mother. It made me realise how far I’ve come and that really, it was lovely of her to say, but I didn’t *need* the validation. And I’m really flipping proud of that because In the early days with my first born, I’d turn up blurry eyed at baby sensory and hear whispers that I was the “bottle feeding mum”. I’d feel ashamed and nervous that I wouldn’t be able to join in at feeding time like the wonderful breast feeding mothers. 🤷🏼♀️ My c section scar meant it took me longer to get up and down off the floor and I’d often just sit on my own waiting for the class to resume smiling with tear filled eyes looking at my newborn. The worst thing was, I let other people, not raising my children, to make me feel things I really didn’t deserve.
We need to stop. Stop being so judgy. Stop being so opinionated on the way someone brings up their child.
👏🏻 You wanna breastfeed? ABSOLUTELY BLOODY MARVELLOUS. You wanna bottle feed? I’m just as proud of you, go smash the formula and enjoy the annoying beeping noise of the machine.
👏🏻 You wanna work full time after having your child? Good on you! You want to quit your job and be with your child all day? Excellent!
👏🏻 You create the most beautiful, aesthetic, organic food for your toddler, bravo! You microwaved an ellas kitchen pouch with an oven fish finger? Ace (also pass me one).
👏🏻 You attended zero baby classes in the last week? I bet that was peaceful. You went to several sensory and toddler groups? Outstanding.
Am I making sense?
Let’s just stop with the parenting taboos. Who’s with me?
Violet x
