When the weather is bad, it’s sometimes difficult to get outside and do things with the kids, but did you know there are actually loads of great rainy day places to visit in most towns and cities? Here are some ideas for your next rainy day with the kids;
- Aquarium
Lots of big cities and seaside towns have aquariums which are loads of fun to visit on rainy days. As they tend to be fully enclosed, you can explore the wonders of sea life with your kids without having to get wet!
- Soft play
Definitely not to everyone’s liking, but softplay centres have a lot to offer for parents and kids alike. See what’s available near you, but most will have a café for the parents to chill out in, and a designated space for babies and younger toddlers. A little bright and noisy for some, but absolutely perfect for letting your little ones run about and burn up some energy.
- Local museum
Local museums are often created with children in mind so they can be a lot of fun for kids of all ages. See what you can find near you and explore together, learning as you go!
- Shopping centre
If you plan it out a bit in advance, then a spot of shopping can be a great way of keeping everyone entertained on a drizzly day. Bigger shopping centres often have play areas and crèches, as well as novelties like tiny child sized shopping trollies and little cars to be pushed around in. Write a list of things to add to a scavenger hunt (think things like ‘lady in a red coat’, and ‘sandwich’ that they will definitely be able to find) and offer a little prize to your children if they can tick off everything on the list by the end of the day.
- Cinema
The cinema is a tried and tested way of keeping everyone happy when the weather is a bit pants. If you have smaller children then have a look for specific toddler screenings of films and read about how they differ from the usual cinema experience and see if they could be for you!
- Trampoline park
Trampoline parks are amazing for the whole family and are brilliant fun, as well as being a great way to burn off any excess energy. They usually have a café too for any parents who would rather sit and watch than join in!
- Get outside in the rain!
If you don’t fancy any of the above ideas, then why not get everyone dressed in head to toe waterproofs and go out in the rain?! See how many puddles you can splash in and catch raindrops on your tongues. Just make sure you’ve got towels and spare clothes for when you return inside!
