Christmas trees and festive decorations have been making an appearance in homes all over the world earlier and earlier every year. For many people, putting up a Christmas tree and decorating the home for the holidays can being immense joy. While many of us have been getting the tree up early and spreading the festive cheer throughout the autumn and winter months, when is the time to take down the Christmas Tree?
Traditionally, festive decorations and Christmas trees have been taken down on Twelfth Night, which marks the coming of Epiphany for some types of Christians. While lots of the older generations might still refer to Twelfth Night as the time to get the tree down, this religious calendar event probably isn’t even on the radar for a lot of younger people! In modern times, New Year has become the most widely accepted time to get everything down, and begin the process of de-Christmassing the home.
Since Covid hit, the whole affair or decorating for Christmas, and then clearing away the decorations has become a bit of a free for all with no right or wrong answer – it’s great. If you feel like getting in the festive groove as early as September or October – brilliant, go for it! If you want to declutter your house and get ready for the coming year the second Christmas is over, that’s also fine and nobody is going to bat an eyelid.
Taking down the Christmas decorations can be a real breath of fresh air. Suddenly your home can feel a bit brighter and emptier. You can marvel at all the space you have that was previously taken up with the Christmas tree, strings of cards, piles of presents, and other holiday paraphernalia. Clearing everything away can help you get into the perfect mindset for starting the new year in a positive light.
So, if you’ve decorated your home, when are you taking your decorations down?
