AD: This post is a Valentines collaboration with Boots, all words and opinions are my own.
When it comes to Valentine’s day, I’ve always kept it pretty low key. I don’t think you have to go out and go for a fancy meal or alike, but actually it’s much better to do something that makes you and your partner happy. In our family, Joe and I actually prefer to stay in on Valentines. We love to get cosy on the sofa, watch a film or two and chat about memories and our weeks. In today’s age, where we tend to be absorbed by our mobile phones and laptops most evenings, we use this as a reason to pop them aside and really take the time to enjoy some quality time together. This year, with the help of Boots, we’ve kept up our home tradition but added a little sparkle to it. This year we decided to celebrate Valentine’s Day a little earlier as Joe is away the week of it.
Create a little joy: Food
For us, food is a true love language. For Valentine’s this year we decided to treat one another by picking up pizzas from one of our favourite independents in the area. We popped these in the oven whilst getting ourselves a little dressed up (I’ll come onto that later), and were pleased to enjoy delicious, gooey pizzas over a lot of laughter!

You give a little love: Gifts
Being able to give a gift on Valentine’s Day is a really lovely thing. For me, I know that when I’m choosing Valentine’s Gifts for Him, I need to keep it simple. Joe continuously supports and shows up for our family, so when I wanted to pick something out for him I wanted it to be something he wouldn’t buy himself. Joe rarely chooses himself a fragrance, but for me, fragrances can transport you! I remember wearing Britney Spears Fantasy on our first date ever together and him commenting on it. I picked up a beautiful Joop scent for him and to be honest, I also explored the Valentine’s Gifts for Her section on the website too to choose one for me. You see, I’d never expect a gift, but I think taking the pressure off Joe is key for making it a really relaxed evening (plus who am I kidding, I love to choose for myself).
Add a little spice: Clothing/Beauty
As we stayed at home and kept it low key, we decided to add a little glamour to our evening by getting dressed up and I popped on a little makeup. I recently picked up these lovely Real Techniques brushes over on the Valentine’s Day Gifts section of the Boots website and I am loving the way they blend my makeup effortlessly into my skin. With two young children, we don’t often get glammed up and it felt really nice to make an effort in our own home (I did change to stretchy trousers after scoffing the pizza though!)
All in all, we had a wonderful evening in the comfort of our own home, but were able to add some little touches (that will last a long time) to make it a bit special. Whether you’re hosting your own at home Valentines or Galentines, there are some amazing products you can pick up on the Boots website.
Let me know what your usual routine is for Valentine’s Day?
