Looking for things to do in Orlando? When most people think of Orlando, they immediately think of theme parks. While Walt Disney World and Universal Studios are incredible attractions, there’s so much more to discover in and around the city. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing day out, a shopping spree, or an unforgettable adventure, Orlando has something for everyone.
Here are some of my favourite things to do in Orlando beyond the rollercoasters.
Spend a Rainy Day at Dave & Buster’s
Let’s be honest, Florida weather can be unpredictable so planning things to do in Orlando can be tricky. One minute it’s sunshine, the next it’s a tropical downpour. That’s why Dave & Buster’s is the perfect rainy-day activity.
Packed with arcade games, virtual reality experiences, sports simulators, and plenty of food and drinks, it’s a fun way to spend a few hours when the weather isn’t cooperating. Whether you’re travelling with friends, family, or as a couple, there’s something strangely addictive about trying to beat each other’s high scores and collecting tickets for prizes.
Even if the sun is shining, it’s worth a visit for a few hours of entertainment.
Explore the Charming Town of Celebration
Just a short drive from Orlando, Celebration feels like stepping into a completely different world. Originally developed by Disney, this picturesque town is full of tree-lined streets, beautiful homes, and a relaxed small-town atmosphere.
One of the best ways to experience Celebration is simply by wandering around. Take a stroll around the lake, admire the scenery, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The waterfront paths are perfect for a leisurely walk, and there are plenty of cafes and restaurants where you can stop for a coffee or lunch.

It’s a welcome change of pace from the busy theme park crowds and offers a glimpse of a quieter side of Central Florida. Our favourite thing to do is get a coffee, sit on the lounging chairs and talk about our plans for the day.
Shop Until You Drop
If shopping is your thing, Orlando won’t disappoint. The city is home to some fantastic shopping destinations, whether you’re hunting for designer bargains or browsing your favourite high-street brands.
The outlet malls are particularly popular with visitors, offering huge discounts on well-known brands. Orlando International Premium Outlets and Orlando Vineland Premium Outlets are favourites for good reason, with hundreds of stores and plenty of opportunities to find a bargain.
You’ll also find excellent shopping centres, boutiques, and entertainment districts throughout the city, making it easy to fill an entire day with retail therapy.
Experience the Everglades
For something completely different, consider taking a trip to the Everglades. This unique ecosystem is one of Florida’s most famous natural wonders and offers an unforgettable contrast to Orlando’s attractions.
One of the highlights is taking an airboat ride across the wetlands. Gliding across the water while spotting wildlife…including alligators, turtles, birds, and other native species… it’s an experience you won’t forget.
The Everglades provide a chance to see Florida’s wild side and appreciate the incredible natural landscapes that make the state so special.
Visit Kennedy Space Center
No trip to Central Florida is complete without visiting the Kennedy Space Center. Located on Florida’s Space Coast, it’s one of the most fascinating attractions in the United States.

Whether you’re a lifelong space enthusiast or simply curious about space exploration, there’s something inspiring about standing beneath real rockets and learning about NASA’s missions. Highlights include the Space Shuttle Atlantis exhibit, astronaut encounters, and the chance to learn about both historic and future space missions.
The experience is educational, interactive (you can try and dock your shuttle), and genuinely draw jopping at times. It’s easy to spend an entire day exploring everything the centre has to offer. It has a really great play interactive centre for children too.
Final Thoughts on Things to Do in Orlando
While Orlando is famous for its theme parks, some of the best experiences can be found beyond the gates. Things to do in Orlando include arcade fun at Dave & Buster’s and peaceful walks around Celebration, to shopping, wildlife adventures in the Everglades, and the incredible Kennedy Space Center, there’s no shortage of things to see and do.
So if you’re planning a trip to Orlando, make sure you leave room in your itinerary for a few adventures beyond the theme parks. You might just discover your favourite part of the holiday. When it comes to things to do in Orlando, what are your recommendations?
