I’m mourning a friendship… Weird to say isn’t it? I didn’t actually realise this was a thing until a day or so ago when I become overwhelmingly sad realising that I was no longer close with one of my dearest friends. Reality hit me hard.
I suppose I’ve noticed for a while, the odd message being ignored or the lack of joy when you spark them with some news in your life. So what do you do? Do you fight to continue to try and be their friend or simply let go? Well I tried them both and I’ll tell you what happened.
I fought. I tried to check in, continue to try and keep up with their lives. It became ever more painful when I realised questions weren’t being reciprocated and a simple “how are you?” became a foreign language between us. I then took the approach to play it cool. I say that as if it’s easy. The thing I’ve realised is when you genuinely want to make it work you can try too hard, force it too much and it causes it to break. So we’re left here, a bit awkward, a little bit uncomfortable and a deep saddening feeling that consumes my evenings (making me write blog posts like this). Yet, I refuse to keep letting it get me down.
I’m going to make a pact with myself, and you’re going to hold me accountable. I’m going to stop forcing it. It’s ok to be mourning a friendship but I’m going to stop trying so hard to get the validation from old friendships. I need to focus on the positive, the new friends, and wish them best of luck. I have no bad feelings against anyone who I’ve gone through this with. I’ll admit I’ve changed too. My priorities have changed and my character has. I’m not quite that gullible girl who would go along with everything for the sake of keeping the peace. So here’s to the letting go.
It’s time to place some focus on the folk in my life that bring me complete joy.
What are your thoughts on mourning a friendship?

I feel the same way. It’s made harder by the fact she’s my childhood best friend. We’ve been through everything together. 💔💗
I just don’t know what to do anymore. Xoxo
I think we can only begin to let go a little, but be there for support and love if needed. I know it’s hard. But once I decided to let go things actually felt a lot easier
Ooh Violet, I totally understand how you feel. I recently went through a strange situation when an old friend of mine just decided out of nowhere to ignore my messages and block me, it was so out of the blue! I was upset, I was peed off, but then I let it go. It’s sad though, I value all friendships and couldn’t ghost anyone in this way.
Amazing how many people are relating to this. I’m glad you value yourself ❤️ you deserve much better
