I have been thinking a lot about what I’ve learnt over the past few years having gone full time as a content creator. Whether it’s been the fine print on the contracts or the facebook groups that somehow make you know you’re not an imposter and deserve your spot… I thought it would be a great idea to put fingers to keyboard and write a little note on what I wish I knew as a NEW content creator.
You are worthy
Whether you have an audience of 50 people of 10 thousand followers, you are worthy. Likes, comments & followers do not define how you deserve your own spot on the internet and you should completely own it and make it your own. I would say to make sure you remind yourself this every time a new collaboration enquiry comes through because we all forget it at the best of times.
Consistency is key
Whilst the creator comparison game will be one you’ll probably tackle for the whole duration of your journey. It is important to keep up your content and posting what you love because consistency doesn’t go unnoticed. Keep showing up and putting yourself out there.
Make sure you set boundaries you’re happy with
One thing I learnt that has really helped me is setting boundaries. Whether that is taking one day off a week, or putting your phone aside after a certain time to not discussing your personal life, it is super important you know what you are comfortable sharing and not sharing. Boundaries also include not accepting less than your worth on collaborations and making sure you’re happy with deliverables and deadlines.
Have fun
There really is little point in doing all of this as a content creator if you hate what you’re doing. Make sure you enjoy it!
