*this post includes products that were loaned to me on a PR basis to explore and review from Onloan.
ATTENTION ALL BLOGGERS/ONLINE CONTENT CREATORS/BIG SHOPPERS. If you’re making small changes to try and be more sustainable then you can most definitely start with your wardrobe. But we love to shop right? Well what if I told you there was a way for you to pay a monthly subscription and RENT items for a month, then return them and swap them out for different clothes? It’s one way to keep up the content and be a little more conscious of your spending/impact on the planet. I’ve got you interested? Ok great. I tried out Onloan for a month to see what they had and how it all worked, here’s what happened.
I went online, shopped their website for 4 items I wanted to ‘borrow’ for the month. Popped in my size (size 16), this gave me less options then other sizes but still plenty to go on.
The item took a little while longer to arrive than I expected but this could possibly be because this was a PR collaboration and not the usual customer order. However when the bag arrived I was pleasantly surprised to find a big reusable sack, with simple instructions on how to return and everything packed neatly in tissue paper.
I tried on all of the outfits, a few weren’t for me. The Leather jumpsuit was very Ross Geller from Friends and I was instantly uncomfortable and hot in it, but it was great to try it out instead of purchasing and wasting. The item quality is really high and this is one element I certainly wasn’t disappointed with. Here are my summary pros and cons of Onloan.
Pros:
- Just a bit more sustainable then buying new items every month to be worn once or twice
- They have a maternity collection which is FANTASTIC because I purchased items for maternity that I could have borrowed
- A range of brands and sizing
- You can ‘gift‘ an onloan experience making it a diverse present
- Strict cleaning regimes and garments are packed beautifully
- If you love an item, you can extend the loan period of it
Cons:
- Unfortunately the brand only go up to a size 16 at the moment, but I asked the question and they are looking into expanding their size range
- If you REALLY love a certain item you’ve gotta return it at the end of the month or after extended loan, but I guess that’s when you know it’s a keeper for the wardrobe and can look for it elsewhere on the internet
- I ordered a jumper that I thought was a totally different colour, but it turned up an orange shade.
- It could be considered quite pricey and certainly won’t be in everyones budget
So there you have it, my experience of Onloan, have you ever tried a clothes rental service?
