In my part of town there is a hashtag for this sorta thang, #LoveLocal . It’s about encouraging people to shop locally where possible and encourages you to join in with the social speak on this and spread the word. There are a couple of myths about shopping locally i.e. it’s more expensive/hassle than it’s worth and I’m here to explain why you should at least give it a go.
The Local Economy
Buy shopping locally you are DIRECTLY putting your money into your local economy. By investing in this, you can be darn sure it’ll be re-spent back into this economy and used to create a strong economic backing for your local area.

The Environmental Impact
Have you considered that shopping locally actually reduces the use of plastic. Brown paper bags are used at most of the greengrocers near me. Whilst my shop isn’t totally Plastic Free, it’s certainly been reduced by shopping local and my blue bin is thanking me for it.
The Personality and Character (and joy!)
It’s almost a networking event. If you’re a social bird like me, you’ll love being able to chat to the lady who runs the shop who’s mum’s mum, started up shop decades ago and actually only lives 3 streets away from you, has a daughter studying Science at University and a dog named Rufus. You get my point? You will meet some wonderful characters and create conversation locally.

The Competition
By shopping locally, you’re encouraging your local shops to be more competitive in their prices. If they require more stock, they get better rates which means better for you too. Usually, I’ll shop a couple of products between a few green grocers, they’ll both have different deals on different items saving me money.
Will you be thinking about making the change?
