*This post is an advertisement feature on suggestions to reduce your heating bills, however all words and opinions are my own.
With the cooler nights setting in we’re all reaching for our thermostats. However, you’ll notice that the more you use your heating system, the more your bills go up and during one of the most expensive month’s of the year it’s imperative we look at ways to reduce our costs for this bill. Here’s my top tips on how to save money on your heating bill.
Search for the best energy supplier
When it comes to saving money on your bills, there are tonnes of ways to assess whether you’re with the most competitive energy supplier. The first place I’d start, is by checking you are with the most competitive provider for your gas and electric. A quick google search will allow you to input your details and change your plan to ensure you can save the most money when it comes to the cost of your fuel.
Consider renewing your boiler to a condensing boiler (if yours isn’t already)
If you’re looking for Boiler installation Leeds then I would highly recommend having a chat with your boiler provider about switching to a condensing boiler. In short, they’re more efficient, produce lower energy bills, and a generate less carbon emissions compared to a non-condensing boiler. The switch can come at a higher cost, but would be be paid back due to lower energy bills over time. Plus, think of how much better you’ll feel knowing you’ve reduced your carbon footprint.
Install smart heating controls
Have you ever heard of heating controls? I’m not talking about your thermostat on your wall. Smart heating controls are essentially the next level up. They’re a way of controlling your heating via your smartphone or device. Using one of these systems can ensure you don’t waste energy by making sure you’re not spending costs heating an empty home. Simply log onto the app and switch on and off as you need.
Consider upgrading glazing or introducing cavity all insulation
If your home isn’t already double glazed, then you’ll be losing a lot of heat through the windows. Double glazing uses two panes of glass separated by a layer of argon gas. This air gap reduces heat transfer by conduction thus keeping hot air from escaping as easily. Can you tell I’m married to a Mechanical Engineer yet? Adding cavity wall insulation will retain the heat in your home.
Get clever with your furnishings
Firstly, do you have thick curtains that keep in the warmth? It’s a small change you can make to reduce heating bills. If you’re not that into curtains, then let’s discuss adding lots of comfy blankets here there and everywhere so you can keep cosy whilst keeping your boiler off. I guess it’s the perfect excuse to bring the duvet down to the sofa eh?
Finally, dress yourself appropriately
How warm and cosy does that super thick knit jumper make you feel? Well, this and some super cosy thick socks can make a world of difference on keeping you warm in the colder months. I remember one year our boiler broke and I walked around the house with a scarf and gloves on. Now I’m not suggesting you do this but perhaps you can add another layer on just to ensure you keep comfortable.
Do you have any top tips for reducing the heating bills?
