If you followed my social the first time round, I had an… interesting pregnancy. I was really quite sick and unable to function properly most days. Friends will vouch for me that I never got ‘the glow’ and really I mooched along for 9 months. Whilst I was perfectly healthy based on my green notes (the NHS booklet that documents a person’s pregnancy), I felt rotten and told people being pregnant was like a constant hangover. Don’t get me wrong, I did feel blessed that I was having a child, but the whole pregnancy I was a bit of a dark cloud. So understandably, and given that I’d had some complications at birth, it took me a while to get my head around the idea of another child.
Yet, here we are.
This second pregnancy (so far) (I’m roughly 17 weeks) has been nothing like the first and it’s made me a bit of a paranoid Pam. Here’s what’s been different for me this time:
Sickness
Last time I lost quite a bit of weight. I was sick after most meals and felt queasy pretty much the whole day. This time round? A slice of toast and I’m good to go. I have moments I feel queasy, and I’ve had a couple of actual vomiting experiences but NO WHERE NEAR like last time. It’s been lovely to walk around feeling pretty good.
The Glow
‘Violet, you actually have the glow this time’ was something my friend said to me the other day. It’s true! I feel pretty bubbly and bright most days and it’s ace!
Tiredness
What has come in some way a surprise though, is just how tired I am. Maybe it’s because I’m running around after a 2 1/2 year old? Who knows? Most days I could take a good 2-3 hour nap if my son allowed. However, now he’s sleeping through the night I am enjoying a solid 8 hours at least.
Paranoia
I’ve found myself wondering why this pregnancy seems so much easier in a way and it makes me doubt the health of both myself and baby. I had some weird blood results come back which have since gone back to normal but it threw me off completely on worrying that because I’m not sick things aren’t ok. Speak to any midwife and they’ll tell you sickness isn’t a measurement of the wellbeing but none the less, my mind is concerned.
Body
The first time round my body stayed relatively close to my size when not pregnant. I really only started to show properly later on and even then wasn’t that big. The rest of my body more or less stayed the same… this time round? Crikey, my belly is visible already and my boobs are ever growing. I’m not sure what’s happening, maybe it’s cause my son keeps me topped up on snacks.
We’ll be finding out the gender of our little one very soon, so I want all your predictions! Are you team boy or girl this time?
Violet x
