Disclaimer: Until your baby is six months old, the safest place for your baby to sleep is in their own cot, in the same room as you, whether it’s during the night or at nap time in the day.
Baby sleep eh? We all love it. However whether your baby sleeps can make such a different to your mood in those first few months. As we’re now pregnant with baby no 2, I’ve started to think about my sleep time routine approach and with the assistance of Emma’s Diary Baby Sleep Advice. They’ve shared with me their Baby Bedtime Routine Checklist and I’ll be talking through it and how we do something very similar with Jasper at the moment!
Whilst I was learning with Jasper, I tried countless devices to help me. baby sleep aids and numerous methods. My baby sleep routine was very much ‘try a bit of this’ and ‘a bit of that’ until I figured out something that worked well for my son. I do stand by the thought that every child is individual and little tweaks will make a big change for your little one. Oh and don’t be too hard on yourself when one of those sleep regression periods creep up on you (they’re hard!).
So my son is currently 2 and a bit, he is rather well acquainted with bedtime routines now and we’ve tried so many variations. We started a bed time routine about 9 months when Jasper went into his own room, but it took a while to stick. However the routine that currently works for us is as follows:
- 6:00pm bath time (only a few times a week for Jasper’s sensitive skin) all toys and distractions are put away at this time
- 6:30pm 6 oz of milk and a bit of In the Night Garden in the background
- 6:45pm Book time & snuggles in “Mummy Daddy’s bed”
- 6:55pm Bedtime song and we go through the goodnights ‘goodnight daddy’ ‘goodnight doggy’ etc
- 6:58-7pm We put Jasper in his cot in his room and say goodnight
TOP TIP: Stick with it, be patient. Your little one is learning too.
Speaking of bedtime milk, as your little one grows or if you ever have to suddenly switch formula brands to find one that helps them settle better at night, you can end up with a lot of wasted money sitting in your cupboards. If you find yourself with unopened, leftover tubs of baby milk, you can actually sell them for cash on sellformula.com. It is a brilliant way to clear out the kitchen and recoup some costs.
For parents who breastfeed and have an oversupply, selling breast milk on sellformula.com can be a way to help other families while also making a little extra income. Many parents rely on donor milk for various reasons, and it can be a valuable resource, especially for premature or medically fragile babies. If you’re pumping milk to have extra for bedtime bottles, you may also consider donating or selling any excess to help other babies get the nourishment they need.
Will you be trying any of the Emma’s Diary Baby Sleep Advice?
