You may be thinking, Violet… dating? It’s not a topic I often discuss but as many, I am fascinated by the topic. I am very much still a married woman but I do like to observe and discuss the current dating climate with several of my friends. I met my husband in a night club but it seems anything can be the start of a beautiful relationship with colleagues dating, new apps popping up daily and events across the country to suit different dating habits. It seems to be a whole new world out there.
Dating Apps
Possibly the most commonly used type out there due to the ease and oh so familiar technology that our generation is used to. I have to admit, as an onlooker this can appear a little savage at times. I have friends who come to me in floods of tears after someone who’s been speaking on the regular to them through messages just randomly ghosts them with no explanation. Full relationships are built up before people have met and although I’m sure there are lots of success stories it does appear to be the option I would fear for myself.
Dating Events
If you’ve tried it, you may have loved or hated it. Dating events in London have set the tone for the rest of the country to run online speed dating events. For a small entry fee you can have some fun either (at present) online via virtual rooms or in person when it’s safe to do so again. This method of dating seems to give you a new person to get to know every 3 minutes with the promise of around 15-20 meets during an event. As someone who’s done several networking events in this style I feel this would be the method I’d lead to. Small risk of disappointment, lots of new faces looking for the same thing as you. Seems nice to actually meet people in person too rather than through an app.
Blind Dates
Is it just me who feels a little put off by the concept of a blind date? Two people being set up by friends who think they’ll love each other? Surely there has to be a better way to do it. I’ve personally never sent my friends off alone… instead I’ve come up with BBQs or local events where they can meet in person. Have you tried one?
What’s your method of dating?
