The below post is one extracted from my instagram, but I wanted to replicate it on here just incase. It shows my feelings surrounding this Mother’s Day and where I am on my journey into being a Mother of two. Here goes:
This Mother’s Day feels different for me. After we put our children to bed last night, I stood in the kitchen with Joe and cried. I wasn’t sad, I wasn’t happy, but I fell an overwhelming feeling of achievement of parenting the last year.
When I think about what it means to be a Mother, I compare to my experience of my mum. Strong at all times, caring and affectionate, as if she was born to parent. You see, she’s a natural. I’m forever thankful of the experiences she’s given me and how she has paved the way to show me what it is to be a mum. However…
Comparison is hard, it’s painful. I didn’t take to parenting two children as I’d hoped. I felt guilt and shame in my journey. But as you all know, I am open about this after months of repressing it. I am a Mother. I struggle some days, I boss others. I feel a love so deep it aches, I also crave my own company.
My children are my gravity. They anchor me and they are my home. It’s a true blessing to be on this journey but I am still learning. I am still processing. I am growing into this role.
So if you feel something similar this Mother’s Day, then enjoy the ride. Celebrate today, because every single day you get up and nurture another human. You raise compassionate beings that will (oh it’s cheesy) but change the world.
