Things to being to the airport to entertain your kids

You’ll know if you follow my instagram that I’ve just been away for a week in Tenerife. If you’re planning a trip away with your kids, then the chances are you’ve thought about how to keep them as happy as possible on the plane. What a lot of people don’t think about is how to keep kids entertained at the airport!

If you’ve got older children and teens then the chances are, they’ll be happy enough with some screen time. Younger children, toddlers, and babies can be a bit harder to keep happy when you’re waiting around before boarding your flight, so here are a few ideas.

 

1. Screen time

Firstly, don’t be afraid to let your kids have more screen time than usual. Having to hang around at an airport can be a real pain, so sometimes you’ve just got to do what makes life easier. If that means taking a fully charged tablet and playing Little Baby Bum on repeat, so be it!

 

2. Colouring and sticker books

Colouring and sticker books are an amazing way of keeping kids entertained. A classic colouring in book and an inexpensive set of colouring pencils is always a great shout, but you can also get some really exciting books that combine colouring, stickering, and reading. It might not sound too exciting to adults, but to older toddlers and primary school aged kids, it’s ace and can keep them entertained for hours!

 

3. Use what’s around you

If you’ve got babies and toddlers who love watching what’s going on around them, then an airport can be great for them. Find a big window where you can watch the planes taking off and landing.

 

Airports often have little play areas, especially bigger international airports. See if you can find one and let your little ones burn off some energy before you get on the plane!

 

4. Pack easy to get to small toys

Pop something fun in your hand luggage so that it’s really easy to get to. Something like Magformers is great as it’s easy to have fun with just a handful and they won’t take up too much space. For added excitement value when you get to the airport, get a brand new pack to be discovered when you arrive.
