When North Point asked me if I could get some Christmas presents for the family for £50, I did flinch a little. I’m a seasonal saver, and usually Christmas is so darn costly that I have to buy items throughout the year to cope. Whilst £50 seems a hellova lot of money to some, when you’re shopping for the family it can quickly dissolve, however… with some careful buying and lots of scoping out I have successfully found some perfect Christmas items for the family with a budget of £50.
Now this post isn’t a one size fits all kinda thing, my family will be different to yours. However it does show you that you can stretch that bit of money to get quite a lot of items. I hope it helps you on your quest!
So, let’s start with the details. I have to get gifts for Mum, Dad, Sister & Son, and I figured with this being the season of good will an’ that I’d get a little something for my neighbour. She is my extended family after all! I popped down to North Point Shopping Centre in Hull on my quest and came back with the treasures below.
My Neighbour
Winter Woodland Seasonal Hand Care Set: Home Bargains £2.99
Sugar Cookie Vanilla Candle: Home Bargains £0.99
Festive Fur Trim Slippers: Home Bargains £3.99
Total Cost: £7.97
My first stop was Wilko, at North Point it’s literally one of the biggest stores. You can pick up some lovely seasonal pieces here including facial washes/nail sets/childrens toys and so much more all under a fiver. I pieced together these few things as a little care package for my neighbour but this could easily be swapped out for a Grandma or an auntie. Swap your hand care set for some playing cards (they had some in for £4) and you could make this one for your Grandad too!
My Mum
Floral Print Pyjamas – You Know Who’s £15.00
Total: £15.00
Ok so major confession, I think You Know Who’s is my new favourite store. You can cheekily pick up all those MAJOR names for a massive fraction of the cost. I could find jumpers and scarfs in their for roughly £6 that were otherwise £30… excuse me? Get a bargain while you can, it’s a busy store.
I picked up these pyjamas for my mum as she really does love to keep cosy in the winter. They were one of my more expensive items at £15 BUT they’re actually a brand that rhymes with parks & fencer so it’s a massive steal.
My Dad
Haribo Star Mix: Iceland £1.00
Chocolate Orange 3 pack: Iceland £1.00
Smarties Orange: Iceland £1.00
Terrys Milk Chocolate Orange: Iceland £1.50
Twiglets Caddy: Iceland £2.00
Luxury Cookies: Iceland £1.29
Total Cost: £7.79
Have you seen those REALLY really expensive hampers online where they team together your favourite chocolates or retro sweets? I say skip the faffing and go to Iceland. I picked up all of the above in a quick 5 minute dash and there was so many choices for you chocolate lovers. As my Dad is a big chocolate fan more than anything, this may just keep him quiet whilst he settles his Christmas dinner. Best of all, as you’ve got him SO MUCH CHOC, he will have to share.
Wild Card: Secret Santa
Balloon Modelling Game: Home Bargains £1.49
Total Cost: £1.49
If like me, your work place does a Secret Santa every year on a budget then you can pick up tonnes of pieces in North Point. I thought this balloon modelling could be a bit of fun for mine and cause a few giggles at the end of our work year. It’s only small yes, but the laughs will be endless. They had a small tower game (bit like jenga) for £4 too which would be have an excellent choice too if I wasn’t such a joker.
Gift for a Sister
Herringbone Pom Pom Blanket: Wilko £8.00
Hexagon Mirror: Wilko £5.00
Total Cost: £13.00
Now my sister loves making her home all warm and cosy. She really does take pride in her home and it would be nice to add a few pieces to her collection. What’s better than giving some a big warm hug then the next best thing? A BLANKET! This Herringbone one features the ever fashionable pom-poms and will look great splayed across any sofa or bed. The small hexagon mirror is very on trend this year and a top item I want in my home.
Gift for a Baby
Toy Shopping Basket & Food: Home Bargains £4.99
Total Cost: £4.99
Finally, my little boy. He actually turns one on the day this post goes live HOORAH! So I’ll be totally transparent and admit I’m not going OTT for him this Christmas. I’ve wasted too much money on gadgets and gifts that he’s not taken a liking to. However… give my boy plastic fruit/animals/beakers and he’s in his element. I thought this fun little shopping basket with fruit would keep him entertained for hours and as it’s plastic, I can run it through the dishwasher when (no doubt at all) he covers it in food/mud/whatever else he can find.
