When it comes to dating, virtual experiences are becoming more and more normal. With the world moving more internet based in almost every aspect (think virtual assistants, conference meetings, therapy sessions). It is no surprise that dating has also dallied in this field (honestly, they’ve been doing it a while). But is virtual dating the new way? Well, it can be thought of as safer, easier, more accessible ways for everyone to get into dating and with that in mind, we should probably talk about preparing for you first date. So if you’re wondering exactly what you should do, then here’s some ideas.
Assess your Camera
Before you get into the nitty gritty of your date, you should set everything up and do a little virtual run by with a friend. Check your camera angles, anything you don’t want on display in the background (i.e. letters with your address on, photos of exes, your super comfy granny pants… well maybe you want them). Give your microphone a quick check too and you’ll be good to go.
Check your Dating Website Access
Whether you’re using free dating sites or you’re looking for something local like Berkshire Dating , check your internets speed on your favourite dating website and ensure you have your log in and password to hand. The last thing we want is to be faffing about with password resets when we want to feel relaxed.
Dress for Screen
How do you prepare when you’re getting ready for a video call? Personally, I always apply a bit of lipstick when I’m on camera. I’m not entirely sure it has massive impact but it really does make me feel better. Just that little kick of confidence to lift up my mood and remind me I look good. Perhaps you could put something on that you feel sexy and confident in and if you wanna keep joggers on the bottom half, go for it…. who’s gonna know?
Think about how to make it unique
So that you don’t get wrapped up in the whole coronavirus conversation, it could be worthwhile to think of how you can both undertake a dating activity. A paint class maybe? Or if you’re more into food, why don’t you both cook something whilst chatting to each other? The time will fly by and you’ll have something delicious to eat.
Come up with some conversations for those awkward pauses
If you have a habit of finding these things awkward it’s well worth 5 minutes time to come up with some topics for conversation for when the going gets tough. Write down some bad jokes, come up with favourite film lists, musicians, discuss travel, anything really. Just keep it fun!
So there you have it, some top tips for mastering your first virtual date. I hope they help you feel really prepared and excited for your next virtual date. Which is your favourite tip?
