How the heck do I almost have a 2 year old? It seems only yesterday that I was marching back and forth to the hospital in an effort to get admitted (if you missed my birth story… it’s a corker go read). Next week Jasper turns 2 and I’m overly excited at the prospect of a 2 year old. I wrote updates on Jasper up until 6 months and then ya know, he became a lot more energetic and I took less time to document things. If you’re interested, here’s my post introducing Jasper, his 3 month update and finally his 6 month update.
It’s funny really, if I read where I finished off I’d written ‘he sleeps through the night’. Well, that must have been the last night in a long time because we didn’t properly get Jasper to sleep through consistently until 16 months old when I gave in and tried controlled crying (that’s a whole other post). He’d not learnt to crawl till 8 months so it all seems very surreal looking back on these posts. Yet, now I have a chatting, bubbly, quirky, little dancer who keeps me on my toes by running all over the place (did I tell you how great it is to run through leaves?)
Jasper has developed his own vocabulary, which primarily consists of different fruits and vegetables, numbers, the alphabet and of course the lyrics to ‘My Best Friend’ by Queen. I’m in awe almost every day at how much knowledge he has and just how much information he takes in.
He can experiment with arts and crafts and regularly has me drawing shapes on paper insisting I draw a ‘green triangle’, a ‘red heart’ or a ‘blue rectangle’. Seriously? When did he figure out to put two defining characteristics together like that?
I think in the 2 years I’ve had him I’ve become a better person. I am more aware of the people around me and how they impact my thoughts and how they impact us as a family. I’ve become less selfish but equally so, more than ever focussed on my goals. I can’t wait to see what the next year brings with him.
Violet x
